How To Enhance Your Kitchen With Country Style Decorating

Everyone wants a great look in their kitchen and enhancing it with country style decorating can give your kitchen a warm homey ambiance. If you want to decorate your kitchen in a country style, you need to think about colors, furniture and accessories. Here's some tips on giving your kitchen country decorating style.

Colors

Country colors are simple - brick reds, medium greens and even blue tones will go good with the country theme. You can get color in your kitchen by painting your walls, but if your cabinets are outdated or needing a little boost, you might think about painting them as well. Other places where you'll add a splash of color include rugs or flooring, window treatments and, of course, you're accessories.

Furniture

Country furniture is simple with clean lines. A lot of the new stuff in the stores features painted furniture with the paint rubbed off in strategic places for an antique look. If you don't like painted furniture, you can simply get pine or oak to enhance your country style decorating.

For the kitchen, you'll want to get a big harvest table and some chairs and you might consider a bakers rack that you can display country style accessories on and maybe even a portable island for extra eating space if you don't already have one.

Window Treatments

While you can find a lot of curtains that have a country pattern, sometimes it's best just to put simple shears on the window so that you can let the rest of your accessories make the statement. If you do want to use a pattern, go for perhaps a gingham or maybe even a stripe. You don't want to use curtains that are too busy as they will distract from the overall look of your kitchen. Along those same lines, don't get anything too frilly or ballooney - you want a simple straight curtain or, perhaps just and valance.

Accessories

The accessories of the fun part of decorating your kitchen and there are plenty of interesting country style accessories that you can add. Baskets always look great and can be used for storage and putting things and so they have a double purpose. Try buying some of the shaker pantry boxes and graduated sizes and stacking those on your countertop. Other great country accessories include old better bowls, old pitchers, vintage signs, long wooden bowls and vintage breadboxes. Check out the antique stores and yard sales for interesting older items that match your country decor.

Accessories don't have to just be on the table and countertop so you can also change out your cabinet knobs and drawer pulls so that they go with your country theme. You can buy knobs that are more plain, or some that are a bit whimsical to add some interest your kitchen.

Using country style decorating in your kitchen can be a fun way to get a unique look in this very important room. You can opt to use new items that you can find in the stores or go on a treasure hunt looking for used items and antiques that will add a unique touch to your home.
