Log Cabin Interior Design

Log cabin interior design should reflect a rustic space reminiscent of a time gone past. Since most people like to keep these homes free of modern materials, designers must be able to work with history.

What does it mean to work with history? Well, creating a log cabin interior design around stainless appliances and modern furniture will probably not work very well. Instead, you must be able to respect the natural wood of this sort of home in order to create a proper space. Often, this will mean finding the right materials to compliment complex wood grains, though it hardly ever means getting rid of the wood itself – before you remove any wooden paneling, make sure to speak with your client.

Many designers tend to take it upon themselves to create rooms based upon former design experiences though this will not always be within your client’s best interest. Instead, make sure that your client is with you every step of the way, or you could be re-doing your work within a week’s time (and this is never optimal). Some great ideas for this type of style include combining copper with wood, meshing flannel with wood, and finding lots of classic antiques to place around the home. Of course, you may have a client that is open to any sort of idea that you have – in this case, try and come up with something completely original.

Some people simply don’t know what they want when it comes to the inside of their home. If a client tells you to just “go for it” consider a mix of classic and modern (still, leave the wood unpainted and intact).  Don’t be afraid to mix silks with woods and antiques with stainless fixtures. Really, the sky’s the limit once you have the “ok signal” from your client. As you can see, log cabin interior design really depends upon the type of relationship that you have with your client.

While some designers prefer a client that does not know what they want, others find that those clients with a clear picture in mind are always easier to please. Either way, trying to make your client happy is the easiest way for all involved to walk away content.

When it comes to log cabin interior design, go ahead and create anything that you feel will go together – just make sure that your client approves every decision along the way.
