What do doors do? They keep out the cold, the kids, the pets, and anyone or anything else that you don’t want inside of a particular room. Though this is the practical part of a door, there are other reasons why they are inside of your home – they can really add a large amount of style to any open space. The only question is: what kind of door will look the best in your home? Well, to begin, let’s discuss the various options.
French, glass, antique, wood, metal… the materials are endless. Some people even put old bank vault doors into their homes –whatever you want to do, this portion of home design is up to you. Then again, if you want to create a certain look inside of your home, you will have to re-think the type that you select. While glass will open up any space, wood will make it smaller. Likewise, antique doors will really help a large home to stand out, though they may make a small home look foolish. There is also the possibility that you may not have any frames inside of your home at all – but in this case, all you really need is a wall.
Who says that you must put doors upon hinges? Many designers have walked away from successful spaces by leaning doors against walls for pure aesthetic reasons. Imagine stained glass reflections bouncing off of your walls every night, or watching as light passes through color glass windows that have been saved from a crumbling castle. If you find these things intriguing, there is no good reason why you can’t have one – even if you don’t actually have the space for one. Interior door designs all follow one basic rule: if you love it, get it.
If you happen to be out at an antique store or flea market and you pass by a door that you cannot live without, make sure to buy it. Don’t worry about where you will put it right away, simply take it home and prop it up for a few days. Once you find the perfect spot, you will be glad that you didn’t leave it behind.
