Interior Design – Retro

It’s time for some groovy interior design – retro is back by popular demand. What does this mean for those that want to stay current? Well, it’s time to step into that time machine and create whole new design style.

So, what does interior design – retro style mean? Well, that depends upon the decade that you want to re-visit. Many people assume that this style only applies to the Seventies, though this is not always the case. Since there are many decades that are now in the past, reverting to any one of them will help you to create a unique look based upon those things that you love. If you want to deck out your home in lava lamps and tie-dyes, go right ahead. Otherwise, you can choose the Eighties and even Nineties for instant inspiration.

As with most other types of design, retro simply means reverting back to any decade that you enjoy style-wise. If it just so happens that you can’t get enough of the Eighties, why not add some of that Eighties sparkle to your home? The trick is not to overdo it, though this can be slightly difficult if you delve too far into one particular design scheme.

Begin with a traditional, and tame, base. This means that you should not paint your wall with wild designs or re-furnish all of your chairs with anything too funky. Instead, stick to basic colors and patterns, and then build from there. While you can always alter the look of a slip cover or piece of wall art, you cannot really re-do your entire home every time you get sick of looking at one design (unless you have a rather large budget!). See why it’s important to take it easy at first? The interior design – retro part—will come as you go along, though there is no need to rush this process.

When you learn to take design slowly, you also learn that you can easily find quality items in the strangest places. Though you may not set out to find the perfect coffee table for your space, you may happen upon it once you begin to look around. This is precisely why no room should ever be finished within a matter of days – slow down, take your time, and allow things to unfold as they will.

While interior design – retro is easy once you have it figure out – can frustrate some people, others will find that this pastime can be quite simple if you stick to the basics listed above. Remember, take your time, do your research, and find out what era really appeals to you.
