Interior Basement Design

Need some extra room inside of your home? Why not consider interior basement design? Those dark cavernous rooms are not what they used to be – in fact, they can be quite luxurious.

Unless you have a cellar that includes high ceilings, you may have to go through a bit of a home renovation in order to make this space work. Essentially, you will have to raise your floor slightly in order to create a larger space, though this may not be necessary if you don’t mind a low ceiling. That said, interior basement design is easily contrived once you begin thinking of this space as an extension of your house, and stop thinking of it as the dingy dusty part of your home that you want to hide.

Many people that want more living space, but don’t want to move, have begun to look underneath their feet for some inspiration. Now, it may seem rather awkward to move into this area of your home, though you don’t have to make it your main living quarters. Instead, consider making this room your library or study – two rooms that most homes don’t include.  To do this, you will have to include lots of bookshelves, some cozy reading nooks, and maybe even a fireplace… but let’s begin with the floor.

Most of the time, those basement floors can be really cold and hard. So, the first course of action is to cover it up with something warmer. The best way to accomplish this is to have the floor covered with a thick mat, and then have a professionally installed rug placed on top of it. Should you do this, you will have a cushy floor in an instant. Now, let’s move on to the actual decoration that will become a part of the overall interior basement design.

The best way to go about gathering different items for this space is to choose one type of design style and run with it. Rather than going rustic (as many people do) think about turning your dark room into a room full of luxurious lights and glamorous fabrics. No matter what you do, you will be happy to have this extra space in the long run.

Interior basement design is a lot of fun to explore once you begin gathering ideas. Start researching this topic, take a peek at some designs, and then go for it – you’ll soon find that this can easily be the best room in the house.
