Interior Bar Design
Push aside those tiki torches; interior bar design has come a long way from the slab of wood that it used to be.
Many years ago, those that wanted to place a bar inside of their homes would often build a rectangular piece of wood, and perch it atop two standing pieces of wood. While this may have worked fine in your parents’ rec. room, things has changed quite a bit since that time. Now, interior bar design is all about the sort of atmosphere that you want to create within your home. So, the question is: what kind of person are you?
Are you the type that likes to have a few martinis at the end of the day? Maybe you are the type that enjoys having more than twenty people over on any given Saturday – or, you could be the type that wants a juice or water bar. Once you decide upon the type of person that you are, you will then have to set a budget. Now, these things can get mighty pricey if you begin dipping into rare woods and marble, so find out where your limit is and stay within it.
While you can flip through numerous interior bar design catalogues in order to figure out what style you want, a better idea is to visit with a custom cabinet maker. What do cabinets have to do with this? These guys not only make some of the finest cabinets out there, they also happen to be gurus when it comes to fixing up great bars. So, check out your local cabinet maker for some customized designs (though this may cost just a bit more than any pre-made one!) As for the actual shape of the thing… well that’s entirely up to you.
If a plain old rectangular bar is what you’re after go ahead and work with this design. However, consider ovals, squares, and even ones that dip at the corners. Really, there are many different options to think about. Also, take the time to discover the numerous materials that can be place on top or on front of the piece – you can have everything from rock to glass.
As you can see, interior bar design isn’t what is used to be. Remember to give that old cabinet maker a shot, and think outside of the rectangular tiki box when it comes to the overall shape.
